For the purposes of this debate, the Captain’s Pick system has selectors rank all debaters. The top-ranked debater picks two teammates from the list. Those chosen can accept or reject; if rejected, the captain picks again. Once a team is formed, those three are removed from the list. The process repeats with the next highest-ranked debater until all teams are formed.
The Selector Discretion system has selectors rank debaters and then assign teams how ever they choose. Debaters may submit preferences, but these are non-binding and purely informational for selectors.
In both systems, only debaters who make the contingent (e.g. if there are 3 teams, only the top 9 debaters out of all those who trialled) are eligible to be in a team, and equity conflicts are respected.
